Look what's happening in the English Department!

Shakespeare = Fun!

The English Department is enjoying an exciting Autumn!  Classes are in full swing and students are honing their reading and writing skills in all grades. During their study of Romeo & Juliet, many Grade 9 students are learning all about William Shakespeare and the Renaissance Period. Students from Mrs. Rozic's grade 9 class are featured in these photos as they experiment with Shakespeare's language in a friendly sonnet competition:

Re-decorating!

Our upstairs hallway is looking bolder and brighter too! We are excited to celebrate all areas of our English studies and have featured these subjects on English banners hanging outside of all our classrooms.  Here's a quick glance….

OSSLT News:

The OSSLT results are in! St. Anne students have, yet again, surpassed the provincial average, having achieved a 90% success rate on the Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).  The OSSLT is a compulsory graduation requirement that is administered annually to grade 10 students across the province. Here at St. Anne's we have a number of initiatives in place to ensure continued success.  One instrumental initiative is the practice literacy test (PLT) we administer as a diagnostic in the fall of grades 9 and 10.  Based on the PLT results students are able to receive class and individual development in areas of struggle. Don't forget to mark the date for this year's test, the 2017-2018 Gr. 10 OSSLT will be administered on April 10th, 2018.

Education Week--Saints Soar with Spoken Word Poetry!!

St. Anne's English Department hosted a very successful event during Education Week in early May! Check out our photos!

Spoken Word Poetry Symposium

May 4th, 2016

During Saints Soar Week the Grade 11 Enriched Poetry class shared their spoken word pieces.

Also, classes and guest poets from St. Joseph's and Assumption were in attendance.

Phil Bakos and Maggie Pinsonneault were our delightful emcees for this event.

Gabe Bacynski

The Saints Dance team choreographed a beautiful dance to accompany Holly Painter's poem "We Are Not Finished Yet."

We were even honoured with a visit from William Shakespeare, himself! (a.k.a. Phil Bakos hamming it up!)
